With a turnover of 49.4 billion euros, climate protection made up more than half of Germany鈥檚 turnover within the sector of environmental protection in 2017, from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Environmental protection measures in total created a turnover of 73.9 billion euros, making them 鈥渁 major economic factor鈥� in Germany. Renewable energy brought in 24.4 billion euros, while efforts to improve energy efficiency and to save energy generated 23.6 billion euros.

From solar-panel cleaners to housing-insulation specialists and wind-turbine climbers, Germany's move to a low-carbon economy powered by renewable energy sources is shaping new businesses and the jobs market. A multi-institute study commissioned by the environment ministry from January 2019 said that achieving the 2030 and 2050 climate targets will benefit Germany鈥檚 economy.
