Handelsblatt
German steelmaker Thyssenkrupp plans to phase out CO鈧-intensive coke-based steel production and replace it with a hydrogen-based process by 2050, . 鈥淚t is industry鈥檚 job to ensure it鈥檚 doing share for climate protection,鈥 Andreas Goss, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG, told Handelsblatt. He said the company had a 鈥渢imetable for switching to hydrogen-based steel production鈥 and wants to invest 10 billion euros over the next 30 years in modernising production processes and replacing coke. Steel production is responsible for almost a third of greenhouse gas emissions from German industry, Handelsblatt says.
