Material producer makes sports field from carbon dioxide

German polymer producer Covestro has developed a new CO2-based foam material that can be used as flooring at sports fields, Stefan Schneider writes in the Rheinische Post. The company has already been producing mattresses and upholstered furniture made with the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, but the new hockey field in Germany鈥檚 western state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) covered with CO2-based floor is the first of its kind in the world, Covestro says. According to the company, the procedure for the new material called Cardyon uses about 20 percent less oil and the sports field is just one of many new products the company plans to make with it.
