Lignite mining and power station operator Leag plans large-scale battery

Eastern German lignite mine operator Leag, a subsidiary of Czech energy company EPH, plans to build a large-scale battery near its power station in Schwarze Pumpe in Lusatia, reports Jan Siegel in regional newspaper Lausitzer Rundschau. The company鈥檚 supervisory board has agreed the project, dubbed 鈥淏ig Battery鈥, with a capacity of 60 megawatts, according to Leag joint works council head Toralf Smith. Dietmar Woidke, premier of the eastern German state of Brandenburg, repeated that the lignite mining region Lusatia could become a 鈥淓uropean model region for climate protection and economic growth.鈥
