Germany and US formally launch climate and energy partnership

Germany and the United States have launched an energy partnership focused on accelerating climate action, speeding up the energy transition with new technologies, and promoting climate action in other countries. Both countries signed the joint declaration on the sidelines of the G7 climate and energy ministers鈥 meeting in Berlin. 鈥淲orking groups on hydrogen, offshore wind energy, zero-emission聽vehicles and cooperation with third countries have already been聽established,鈥 a joint press release said. Both countries will 鈥渆ndeavour to lead the world and joint efforts to solve the global climate crisis鈥 and will 鈥渟trive for an ambitious, economically vibrant and sustainable energy transition鈥, according to a joint declaration whose signing officially launches the partnership聽agreed last summer聽by then German chancellor Angela Merkel and US president Joe Biden.
The partnership is co-chaired on the U.S.聽side by the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, U.S. Secretary聽of State Antony Blinken, and Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, and on the German side by climate and energy minister Robert Habeck and foreign minister Annalena聽Baerbock. Germany鈥檚 environment ministry and others will also participate in the partnership.
