German electricity providers will be able to have their products鈥� regional origin certified from January 2019 on, . The Federal Environment Agency (UBA) will make sure that the 鈥渞egional characteristic鈥� of every kilowatt hour of renewable electricity will only be sold once, writes BMWi. Plant operators can have regional certificates issued to them and transfer these with the electricity to the suppliers. The suppliers use the certificates and can thus show the regional characteristics of the renewable power in their electricity labelling.
