German Fridays for Future takes climate strike online

Amid the coronavirus crisis, German Fridays for Future student climate activists are focusing on online activities for the announced聽聽on 24 April. The protesters are planning a livestream with concerts, celebrity guests and different formats for people to get involved. 鈥淚n times of the coronavirus we take responsibility and stay at home. But the climate crisis continues - so does our protest,鈥澛犅燼ctivist Annika Rittmann. An alliance of German environmental NGOs, including Friends of the Earth (BUND), Greenpeace and Campact,聽聽for the online strike under the hashtag #NetzstreikF眉rsKlima. Aside from supporting jobs and value creation, the NGOs demand that stimulus packages which are introduced now must also support climate action.聽
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Germany and the rest of the world means that the weekly Fridays for Future (FfF) protests for greater climate action are suspended for the foreseeable future. University student Luisa Neubauer, who has become a well-known face of the movement in Germany,聽had said听迟丑补迟 FfF will now work on establishing different forms of protest, primarily through online-based activities.
