Europe鈥檚 entire energy system from availability to consumption is potentially vulnerable to climate change and extreme weather events, according to the European Environment Agency (EEA). 鈥淭o secure reliable supply of clean energy, Europe鈥檚 energy system needs to adapt and become more climate resilient,鈥� the EEA says聽. In Central Western Europe, which includes Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and the Benelux states, climate change has mainly negative impacts on offshore energy production, thermal power plants, power grids and electrical substations. On the positive side, it will likely reduce heating and cooling demand (see graph). The report also compares how the energy system is covered in key national adaptation documents.
