Nigeria, Africa鈥檚 most populous country and largest economy, can cover a big share of its growing energy demand with solar power, the German industry lobby group BSW Solar says in a press release. In an in-depth analysis of Nigeria鈥檚 solar power potential, BSW Solar found that solar power has the potential to boost energy supply in Nigeria鈥檚 urban areas as well as in rural zones that are not properly connected to the national power grid. 鈥淕ermany鈥檚 solar power experts can use their valuable know-how to contribute to the complex system integration of solar PV,鈥� the group said.
On a working trip to West African states, German Chancellor Angela Merkel last week said Nigeria was already an important trade partner for Germany. 鈥淓specially in the energy sector, we can still do a lot more,鈥� she said in a speech published by the Federal Government鈥檚 press office.
