Green state premier: Diesel is the best combustion engine
Baden-W眉rttemberg鈥檚 Green state premier Winfried Kretschmann has defended the diesel technology as 鈥渢he best combustion engine there is鈥�, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports. 鈥淐lean diesel engines exist鈥� and 鈥渨e鈥檙e going to need them for a long time to come鈥�, Kretschmann said following heavy criticism by the car industry of looming driving ban for diesel cars in the federal state鈥檚 capital Stuttgart. Kretschmann insisted that his administration did not decide on the driving ban 鈥渟ingle-handedly鈥� but instead was following jurisdiction aimed at ensuring clean air and public health.
Baden-W眉rttemberg is home to influential carmaker Daimler and major supplier Bosch, both of which rely heavily on diesel technology.
