Corrects tender volumes to GW from MW.
Investors again showed insufficient interest to build all of the onshore wind farms on offer in Germany鈥檚 latest tender. The auction remained undersubscribed even though the country鈥檚 grid agency (BNetzA) had reduced the volume from around 3.2 gigawatts (GW) to 1.7 GW, BNetzA. The agency added that they awarded bids to a total of 1.4 GW. Prices of the winning bids ranged from 6 cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh), to the price ceiling of 7.35 ct/kWh. The average price was 7.32 ct/kWh. 鈥淭he total volume awarded following three of this year's four onshore wind auctions now stands at about 4,400 MW. This is already 35 percent more than the total of around 3,200 MW last year,鈥 said BNetzA.
Germany鈥檚 ambitious renewable energy targets require a massive expansion of wind power. Earlier this year, the wind industry blamed last year鈥檚 supply chain problems, as well as higher interest rates and building costs, for the lack of investor interest. In contrast to onshore wind, the rollout of solar power has recently gained momentum in Germany.
