German utility E.ON uses a smart grid with solar and wind energy, as well as a large battery, to supply a Swedish village exclusively with renewable electricity. 鈥淚n order to support the balancing of the local energy system, customers are engaged to become flexible 鈥榩rosumers鈥�, by producing energy through PV and battery systems,鈥� according to an E.ON press release. 鈥淏ut they also will be 鈥榮mart consumers鈥�, by having steerable load assets 鈥� like, for example, heat pumps.鈥�
