The majority of driving license holders in Germany would consider buying an electric car, a survey by E.ON shows. 鈥淚n principle, 64 percent would consider purchasing such a vehicle,鈥� says Jonas Prudlo, responsible for energy solutions at E.ON Germany. Climate protection is mentioned as one of the most important reasons for choosing an electric car.

People between 18 and 44 years of age are particularly open to e-cars, with approval ratings between 72 and 76 percent. With an approval rate of 71 per cent, men are on average more convinced of electric cars than women, who show a 57 per cent approval rate. The main reasons for choosing electric cars are "sustainability, environmental awareness, climate protection.鈥� Other reasons mentioned are purchase premiums and tax benefits, the belief in the 鈥榯echnology of the future鈥� and lower operating and maintenance costs. Of those surveyed, 83 per cent believe the state should support an expansion of the public charging infrastructure - such as on freeways or in cities. An additional 83 percent are in favor of subsidising or promoting charging facilities in private homes..聽

Germany plans to have seven to ten million cars on the road by 2030. However, a lack of charging points in German cities could slow down the roll-out of e-mobility.
