BUSINESS JOURNALISM IN TRANSITION

SIGN UP UNTIL 25 March: The story of the energy transition cuts across borders and beats. One major angle is how businesses and business models are transforming in response to the climate crisis. This is why we're making business and the energy transition the focus of our second Global Energy Transition Journalism conference (GETJO). Join the event to discuss with business leaders, media entrepreneuers and fellow journalists how the business sector is adjusting to the climate crisis and shaping the energy transition, and how these transformations are reflected in journalism.

Why business and the climate?

The transformations caused by the energy transition require new approaches — not only from companies, but also from journalists. One of the main challenges is to bridge the invisible but often enormous gap between business and environmental reporting, both between and within newsrooms.

Most business reporting tends to focus primarily on quarterly results, at the expense of the long-term challenges posed by climate change, and the wider impact company decisions have on society and the environment.ÌýOn the other hand, traditional environmental reporting tends to turn a blind eye to the business stories so crucial for the fate of the energy transition.

After a first successful conference on the sidelines of the COP23 in BonnÌý– check out the GETJO17 highlights and the conference programme hereÌý– we will hold the second Global Energy Transition Journalism conference on 7-8 April 2019 in Berlin. Journalists and other media professionals, foundation representatives and journalism researchers will come together to explore:

  • What do businesses do to fight the climate crisis?
  • How are old, established industries transforming themselves?
  • Who are the innovators? Who is leading, and who's lagging behind – or even working against the transition?
  • How do companies shape the transition across borders?
  • What questions should journalists be asking to get to the bottom of the story and inform their readers?
